Happy Monday!

I hope you're all doing your best to stay happy and healthy. You are approaching your final weeks of classes, and although this is not how you expected to end the year, do your best to make the most of it. As you go through these next few weeks, remember that communication is key. During final exams, and especially during online final exams, it's normal that you feel overwhelmed, stressed and maybe even worn out. This is a reminder that your teachers are human too -- we don't always realize all of the things you have going on in your lives, and for that reason it's important to communicate your thoughts and feelings. Please keep this in mind over the next few weeks. Your voices and your opinions are important, and your feedback helps us to become better educators.

I don't have any assignments for you this week as you finish your final projects, but I want to let you know that I am available all week to help you through the process. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. If many of you have questions, we could set up a video call to resolve any issues.

Remember that you must have your final project turned in by Monday, May 4th, but you are welcome to turn it in early :) I am normally pretty flexible with deadlines, but I will need to be stricter with this one because it's a final exam. Next week Madison and I will be contacting each one of you to set up a short conversation about your project.

Again, I repeat, please contact me with any questions you may have! Help me help you!

Have a great week!

Good morning all!

I hope you are all well and taking care of your health -- both physically and mentally.

Before speaking about class, I want to stress the importance of taking care of yourself during these days. What we're living is incredibly difficult, and it is affecting all of us. I, personally, have felt a lot of anxiety and panic in the last few weeks, and I'd imagine many of you feel the same. While these moments are difficult, they present us with an opportunity for self-reflection unlike any we've ever had before. Oftentimes, we don't know what to do with our free time because we're not used to having it. I hope that you use these days to discover (or rediscover) what you enjoy doing and what makes you happy. I encourage you all to document this in some sort of way -- whether it be a diary or social media. I believe that writing is one of the best ways to reflect and grow, and, while the days seem boring and mundane now, in the future this will be a time you want to remember.

Regardling class, I have a couple of updates for you:

1. As you all are aware, final exams this year will most likely have to be online. I've spoken to the director, and since you've all already spent so much time working on your independent book projects, this will count as your final exam. In addition to the project, i will have a conversation with each of you (either through Google Meet, WhatsApp audios, phone call, etc) about your books and the project you completed. These two components will constitute your final exam grade for my class. That being said, I am going to extend the deadline for the project until Monday, May 4th. Since this is a final exam, I expect the quality of your projects to reflect that; even though we are not physically present in class, you are all very intelligent individuals and I expect to continue to see that in your work. Finish the year strong and on a good note!

2. This week, I want you to have a little fun with English. Life in quarantine can sometimes be boring, but we can make it a little more interesting. This week you are going to make a Quarantorial (Quarantine tutorial) describing how to do a boring, everyday task. Here, you can see my example on How to Watch Netflix in Quarantine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLkbfnCE4Oc&feature=youtu.be

Your videos should be funny and creative! You can choose any activity: how to get ready (arreglarse) in quarantine, how to take online classes, how to do math homework, how to cook dinner, how to play a game... etc. Make me laugh! Make each other laugh!

You have complete creative freedom with your video, except you must include the following:
  1. Your quarantorial must include at least 5 steps.
  2. Your quarantorial must include an audio component.

If you have any problems, please let me know and we will work together to solve them. Send me your video by Monday, April 27th.

Have a great week! Stay positive, and I miss you all!

Best,

Good morning all!

I hope you enjoyed your Semana Santa (from home, of course) and were able to relax a little.

As I mentioned two weeks ago, I will no longer be giving long assignments, as I want you to have time to finish your independent book projects. However, I still want you to be practicing English each week, so I will be giving small assignments.

These last few weeks have been hard and complicated for all of us, and it's really important to find joy in the small things and to make them a part of your daily life. For me (and for many of you as well!) I find that joy in music.

This week, in the hopes that we can inspire each other, you are going to talk about a song that is meaningful to you. I would prefer it be in English, but it's not necessary. I will post a few questions on Google Classroom for you to answer, and you will have the opportunity to see your classmates' answers as well so you can discover some new music

Have a great week! If you have any questions about the assignment (or the independent book project!) please let me know.

Best,
